Christmas Cramming

The past few days have been jam packed with non-stop Christmas activities. I felt so ahead of the game and then out of nowhere Christmas just snuck up and as usual I'm doing everything last minute!
Friday we started the festivities by going shopping with the mama to be, Stacy, and then grabbed dinner after. Saturday bright and early we went to my parents house to bake. Poor Ernest had to work at 7 so we just got up when he did. Autumn LOVED baking! And by baking I mean eating all the cookies, frosting and any decorations she could get her hands on.
Girlfriend was on a serious sugar rush!!! We made biscochitos, raspberry ribbon cookies, sugar cookies and cranberry meltaways. I was over it by the time we were done! Autumn, however, could have 'baked' all day!
High off her sugar rush she veto'd her afternoon nap and instead just gabbed away at all her crib friends. Naturally, she fell asleep on the way to her first birthday party and woke up cranky. Good thing there was more sugar there to keep her going!

Autumns little cousin Peyton turns one (on Christmas Eve!) so they had a big bash to celebrate. Autumn got to decorate a gingerbread house.
Her decorating was very similar to her baking and she just kept eating everything we were putting on her gingerbread house!!! It's really a miracle she slept at all this weekend.
Autumn and Peyton got in a fight over a stuffed monkey! It was the highlight of the party, haha. My girl can throw down! Other than that Autumn had fun playing, climbing the stairs (and giving me a heart attack), and getting her sugar fix.
The birthday girl, Peyton!
Sunday was all about visiting fam, last minute  shopping (we still have a few more, ugh!) and lots of gift wrapping!
Yes, my wrapping paper matches the Christmas tree! #judgeaway
and, I love to mix patterns!
 I also started putting together Autumns kitchen for Christmas morning. Pretty much, we just moved the box from our room to the playroom and pulled out the instructions. I'm going to regret not starting on it sooner. Shit. Where are the elves when you need them?!

Only a few more days til the big day! I have one more day of work (then I'm off for nine GLORIOUS days!!), more Christmas activities like the Parade of Lights tonight, more baking then Christmas Eve fun begins. I cannot wait!

Merry Christmas Y'all!!!!

All That Glitters is Gold

As you know, we had my Mom's big 50th birthday bash this past weekend. It was a glittery gold affair fit for a queen! Haha.
I apologize in advance for not getting the best pictures of the decor. We were scrambling at the end to make all the food and then people started showing up so I really couldn't get great pictures of the decorations. My cousin Sandra definitely captured the feel of the party with the rest of the pics. So thankful for that!!

//decor}//
Gold! Gold! Gold! I wanted something that looked fancy, was a bit glam and a lot of fun. Since it's Christmas time, there is a ton of gold stuff around too. Plus, I'm pretty much just obsessed with everything gold. #cantstopwontstop

The 'cheers', 'party' and 'happy birthday' canvases were made using some blank canvases, glitter and cardboard letters from Target. For the 'cheers', I used PicMonkey and their fancy fonts. Printed, cut, traced, glued then glittered the shit out of it. For the other two canvases, I used a pack of letters from the Target $1 bin and just glued them to the canvas and added glitter. Is there anything you can't do with glitter?! The big '5-0' are cardboard letters from Hobby Lobby which I just mod-poged and glittered.
I found some really great paper glitter paper in different shades at Michaels and made the 'Happy Birthday Fabulous' banner and cake bunting from it.

The tassle garland is the same one I used from Autumn's birthday party and I just added some gold metallic tassels. All the other decorations were either things I had, bought anytime I saw something gold or were borrowed from Ernest's Grandma who has the holy grail of decorations.
//photobooth//
This isn't an actual booth (like my Dad thought! He asked when it was being delivered, hahahah!) but was just a backdrop and some photo props. I loved the backdrop but regrettably it was way too small! I swear the picture showed it being like 6' wide! Oh well.

Despite the failed background, the booth was a HUGE hit! We had soooo much fun taking the silliest pictures...over and over again. The props were super cute too and can be re-used again.

Even Jack got in on the action!
//food//
Food, food, so much food! We wanted to do appetizers and easy to eat finger foods. One the menu was:
Meatballs with 6 different dipping sauces
Little weenies with BBQ
Spinach/Artichoke dip
Chips and Queso
JalapeƱo poppers
Stuffed mushrooms
Wrapped Brie w/ Raspberry Jam
Shrimp Cocktail
Brie with Raspberry Chipotle
Cream Cheese w/ Habanero Pineapple Sauce
Pears with brie and cranberry reduction
Green Chili & Cream Cheese Pinwheels
Deviled Eggs
Did you just gain 10 lbs reading that?! It gets better...
//desserts//
Orange Cream Vodka Cupcakes with Buttercream and Gold Glitter Sprinkles
Double Chocolate Chip Cookies with M&M's

Instead of a cake, we opted for cupcakes...

For the party favors, my dad made the biscochitos (similar recipe here), my mom baked them and I packaged them in these cute mini mason jars. Tied them up and added a fancy label (stamped and embossed by me) and there you have a cute and yummy favor!

//drinks//
Cranberry Sparkler Slushy with Orange Cream Vodka (I'll share the recipe soon)
Hot Chocolate Bar with Peppermint Schnaps and Fire Ball Whiskey
Beer, hard liquor and whatever you could think up
I'll be sharing the rest of the party pictures later in the week. Wait for it...they get crazy!

On another note, I wish I didn't have to say this but I have to. I understand this big ole internet is just full of great ideas. I think every single person borrows from Pintrest, other bloggers, whoever at some point or another. But if an idea isn't an original of yours, please give credit where credit is due. I realize by having this blog I put everything out there for anyone but I hope that if you are borrowing an idea or recipe from me, please source it rather than claiming it as your own. Most of my ideas are borrowed and tweaked, which I always try to credit the source. But sometimes (not often!) I have an original idea or recipe. So do me a solid and don't claim borrowed ideas as your own. I'd love to see how you make my ideas your own! Ok, I hope that's the last time I have to post anything like this!

We survived the weekend!

But just barely! We had a full weekend of party celebrations for my Mama. She turned the big 5-0 on Friday.
Drunken blurry pictures at their best!
After my work Christmas party celebrations, I grabbed my best girl and we met my parents for dinner. It was a lovely affair full of lo mein being flung all over the floor (not entirely intentionally) and many screams being had. Autumn hasn't quite learned it's not ok to scream in public. She was just too excited to celebrate Grandma! I rounded out the night at midnight after doing a lot of baking and party decoration making.
Saturday was started bright and early. All day was spent party prepping and somehow, we were running super behind in the end! Grrrr. Thank goodness my Aunt and Uncle and the fam came by early to help! Oh, and we surprised my mom by having my Grandma show up to the party. She was SO surprised to see her!! Her reaction was priceless!
Who photobombs such a cute picture?! #me
Despite the mad dash at the end, everyone arrived and we had a great turnout! Many drinks were had, good food was eaten and laughter filled the house! We had such an awesome time celebrating my Mama. She deserves such a big celebration!
Sunday I was eager to pickup Autumn from Grandma K's after all the cleaning was done. It was fun having an adult only night but I missed my babe way too much!!! We took my Grandma to meet my gramps, did some shopping, some knitting and more shopping. I am exhausted today! No rest for the wicked, right?!
I'm hoping to have full party details and more pics up this week...maybe.

Christmas Wish List: Little Edition

This is called a 'wish list' because, truth be told, Autumn really does not need anything for Christmas. Since her birthday was just two months ago, we still have new toys and clothes she hasn't even used yet. To say this little girl is blessed would be a huge understatement!

But since we're wishing...I love the idea of something you want, need, wear and read. With that in mind, here is Autumn's Christmas Wish List.

{want} I know Autumn will LOVE this play kitchen! It'd go perfectly with some plush food to play with. To round out her playroom, this playroom table will be perfect for coloring and creating wonderful ideas. I may have to straight up copy what Jess at LBG did with their IKEA table, it's awesome!!

{need} Since it's been freezing balls cold here, Autumn could use this toddler bunting (or this one) to keep her warm as she plays in the snow. One thing we can never seem to get enough of is socks! Somehow they get lost (I'm convinced the dryer eats them!) and we end up with a bunch of mismatched socks. Another thing we just can't get enough of are pj's. Autumn would just look adorable in these jammies!

{wear} This plaid dress would make the perfect Christmas Day outfit! I'm not a huge fan of super frilly/uncomfortable baby clothes. I want baby to be comfy too and this dress totally feeds into my plaid obsession! With all this cold weather Autumn is obsessed with wearing hats now and would be the cutest in this hat. Has anyone tried putting gloves on a toddler?! Not fun! Mittens are totally the way to go! These ones go a step further and actually have a slit to put their hands in easier. Win! I saw this jacket at Target the other day and just fell in love with it!

{read} Here's a little secret, Autumn goes wild over animals! I know she would just adore some olivia books, and this animal book would be perfect to put a face with the crazy animal noises I'm always doing. And a classic, brown bear to round out her animal obsession.

Santa bought Autumn her one big gift (hint, it's the kitchen!) and a few small things for her stocking. Other than that, we decided to 'adopt' some children from the need-tree at the mall and are buying them gifts instead. We're sure Autumn will still have plenty to open Christmas day and so will some other little children :) This is a tradition my parents have been doing for years and I am happy to keep the tradition going. I hope to show Autumn the gift of giving as she gets older.

A Very Christmas Weekend

Happy Monday!

HA! Ya, right. Ain't nothing happy about a Monday! It's about minus a million degrees today, windy and my coffee cup is empty. Boo. Good thing I have this face to go home to!
To this last weekend...Ernest and I have been talking about new vehicles for a while. Mostly, I've been bitching about my two door car and how hard it is with Autumn (many cuss words were also used). First world problems, right?! Last Sunday Ernest was randomly checking Craigslist for cars. He found a perfect one, emailed the people, setup an appointment, a few days later and it's ours!! I was so beyond excited to get the car on Friday. It's red, has four doors and the license plate letters are 'SHT'! Seriously, we were meant to be! We did some shopping on Saturday and it was glorious, I had the stroller, Autumn and shopping bags with room to spare! Christmas came early this year!
Back to shopping, we hit up the mall early on Saturday and took Autumn to see Santa. It was a bit of a wait but luckily I anticipated the wait and took Autumn's brunch with us to feed her in line.
Once we finally got up to Santa, I put her on his lap and she immediately started to freak as I stepped back. Santa was quick on his feet and pulled out a book for her to look at. I snapped THE cutest pic of them!
Her final pic will be one for the memory book. She's on the verge of tears! Poor babe! It was a close call between this pic and one of her with the saddest face and her pouty lip! Hahaha.
The mall was ridic! There were way too many people and I was quickly reminded why online shopping is my favorite thing now. The mall gives me sweaty palms just thinking about it!

Saturday night we went to a family friends law firm for their annual party and Christmas parade. The office is off of the main street where the parade goes by. There was tons of good food, drinks and good people. It was a gazillion below zero (can you tell I'm over this cold weather?!) but we all bundled up and braved the cold.
Autumn loved every second of the parade!! She was dancing, waving and gobbling up as much candy as we would allow. It was so cute watching how excited she was for the lights and music! I can't wait til we take her to the Parade of Lights this year! Last year she was teeny tiny and slept most of the time but this year I know she'll have a blast!
Yesterday we enjoyed a snowy morning from the comfort of our home, breakfast at the G-Grandparents, then a visit to the other G-Grandparents and ended it with a trip to my parents. My mom was baking up a batch of biscochitos (that my dad made) and OMG their house smelled heavenly and the cookies were delish! We did some decorating, cookie eating and Autumn did some drawing. After a short visit I had to get out of there before I ate all the cookies!
We have a big weekend coming up as we celebrate my Mom's 50th birthday with a HUGE shindig! I'm SOOOO excited for it. You know I have a million and one ideas I'm working on this week. And, as sad as I am to leave Autumn for the night, we're going to have a night of adult fun! Bring on the festive drinks!!

Autumn Jane:14 Months

I've become that mom who refers to her kids in months til they're 18! But so much happens and changes month to month that every month deserves a celebration.
{height/weight}
according to Grandma Barbara's measurements she's 29" but it seems like she's much taller! I swear she'll be passing me in no time! We heard if you double their height at 2 years that's how tall they'll be. According to that she'll already be 5'-6". Tall like Daddy! This little kid is always going a million miles a minute so she's a little skinny minny. Seriously, exactly like her Dad!
{clothes}
still in mostly 12 month clothes but some are super short on her but then next size is too loose. Makes shopping a bit challenging.
{shoes}
Size 3-4! Baby big foot! Threes fit good but she won't have those for long. She just got her first pair of Freshly Picked moccs (size 4) and they are so cute! A tad big but I'm sure she'll fit them in no time. Grandma K is always buying her the cutest shoes too!
{diapers}
Still 3's and cloth diapers. Although, she's outgrown some of the smaller cloth ones and I've been too lazy to order more :/

{sleep}
when we moved there was a week that was awful where she was waking up a lot at night. Then she got back in a routine but this week she's been waking up. We're clueless as to why she's waking but it makes it hard on all of us. Hopefully next week we'll be back to our regularly scheduled sleep!

{eating}
 She really has become such a good eater!! It makes my little mommy heart warm. Autumn still refuses to eat any meat of any kind (occasionally she'll surprise us and will eat a few bites but it's rare).
We've just accepted she's baby vegetarian and have adjusted accordingly. I give her Poly Vi Sol in her morning iron fortified oatmeal. The poly has some key vitamins she's missing from no meat eating and same for the iron fortified oatmeal. I also add nutritional yeast to her pasta dishes and it has a mild cheesy flavor. It provides some essential vitamins lacking from a vegetarian diet.
Autumn is still super picky about what she eats but once she likes something, she'll go to town on it. Her favorites are toast (we went thru an entire loaf in a weekend!), marshmallows (also known as reindeer poop which have made an appearance in her advent calendar), green beans, pasta, fruit, pumpkin-cinnamon oatmeal and all bad stuff that I don't let her have (but Dad does!).
She still eats mostly organic foods and I'm really conscious about what I'm feeding her. Although, as she gets older, this has been more of a challenge. She also drinks organic soy milk and is entirely off formula. I just heard the American Pediatric Association is approving nuts before one year! I'm hoping we can add in some almond butter and switch to almond milk!

{teeth}
 4 teeth (2 top and 2 bottom) with another 2 on the way up top. The amber beads have been a lifesaver and she's a totally different baby! We wouldn't have even known about the other two teeth if we didn't see them popping out!

{milestones}
Autumn has proved she does what she wants, when she wants (hello breech baby who came two weeks early!) and walking is no exception to that. Everyday she gets a little braver but then realizes she's not holding on and says 'woah!' And plops down. Lol. She'll walk when she's good and ready and there is no need to rush her :)
Autumn is getting much better at communicating through her signs. It's the cutest thing and amazes me every time!

{personality}
wow, does this little 14 month old have a big personality! She LOVES to dance and sing! I can't decide which is cuter, her dancing or singing. Her dancing involves swinging her hips, snapping her fingers, clicking her tongue, twisting her wrists, clapping and moving about to...the Mexican music!! LOL! Yes, that's right, Autumn loves ranchero music! She even has 'her song' at Grandma Barbara's! We also jam Christmas songs nightly and she LOVES them! Her favorite is 'Jingle Bell Rock'. I seriously need to get her singing and dancing on camera! Her singing is so adorable too. Her raspy little voice and she hums along or baby babble sings. We were watching Wizard of Oz and started singing 'Over the Rainbow' with Dorthy. Both Ernest and I had tears in our eyes. It was the sweetest!
She is such a happy and lovable baby. She gives kisses liberally, hugs all the time and blows kisses like they're going out of style.

{words}
she is always talking up a storm about who knows what! She baby babbles constantly and also says dada or daddy, rarely mommy, yuck, jack, woah, hot, burr, gobble gobble, ouch and probably more I'm forgetting. She picks things up so quickly!
Oh and she is always sainging the ABCs!! It's my favorite thing ever! She tries saying her numbers too but mostly just hums.

{likes}
Doing everything we tell her not to, like climbing the two steps in the entire house. Scaring the living shit out of Jack, giving kisses and hugs, Clam Chowder soup (picky eater but high class taste!), opening and closing the doors to her Advent calendar non-stop, climbing on top of everything, splashing like a wild woman in the bathtub (and drinking the bathwater, gross), and a million things more.

{dislikes}
 sharing (uh-oh!), when I walk out of her sight, meat, staying off the steps. Really though, she is pretty easy going...when she gets her way! ha!

Autumn is so much fun and we are just so in LOVE with this little girl!

Sorry for the quality of photos, it's really dark in our house and I usually just use my iPhone. Oops
